MC Evercool's journey as an MC and event host began in 2013, gaining momentum and official recognition in 2015. When asked about his initial attraction to the profession, he attributed it to sheer passion. His ability to switch roles and immerse himself in the energy of the crowd sets him apart as a compere. After many years, he hosted his first event called Evercool Live in Concert which has evolved into what it is today
In an interview with the one and only MC Evercool, affectionately known as the TurnUP General, we talked about event hosting, community building, and the much-anticipated Light Up Concert. With his infectious energy and passion for entertainment, MC Evercool shared his journey, the genesis of his signature event, and what attendees can expect from the upcoming second edition of the Light Up Concert.

Could you share with us a bit about your journey as an MC and event host? What initially drew you to this profession?
It started in 2013 but officially in 2015 and it’s been a roller coaster. What drew me initially was basically passion for the job
What do you believe set you apart as a compere, and what do you enjoy most about hosting events?
Everyone has their uniqueness but my ability to switch into different roles set me apart. What I enjoy most is the atmosphere and the energy from audience
As you are fondly called "The Energy General" "The Energy Lord" "The Energy Monster" Which one sticks?
TurnUP General. TUG for short
Yes, that’s the title I was looking for. The TurnUP General

How do you channel your energy and enthusiasm into captivating the audience and keeping them engaged throughout the event?
The most important thing is studying your audience. The type of audience you have dictates what you bring on board

What do you think attendees remember most about your hosting style, you being on stage and all after events?
I won’t lie. Its definitely the energy and trust me I host with full concentration

Now, Before we talk about Light Up Concert, Let’s talk a bit about ELIC. I mean Evercool Live in Concert, which was your first event right?

Sure
Yeah, you took your time. I’ve always been watching you and from the onset, you’re someone lovable by many, we see you working with other events, as MC. There was a time I was like Evercool should have his own show....you know?! and you finally did ELIC in what year was that again, please?

Yes, 2021. It was a shutdown! No doubt, even without a guest artiste

Why didn't you continue Evercool Live In Concert?
We didn’t stop it. Light up concert and Evercool live in concert is the same.
We have vision to stage a movement across the country and beyond. ELIC was initially called Energy concert
oooh, so its just a change of name?
Yes, Light up concert and Energy concert is the same
But the concept has evolved so far
Yes. More partners and sponsors
ELIC and Energy concert is same thing. Light up concert came in as a redefinition of Energy concert
Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the Light Up Concert and what sets it apart from other event on campus?
The glamour, production and execution. Everyone now anticipate the light up concert more than we do and other schools are calling for it

A whole lot of difference because we always want to improve every year and get better
What do you think makes your event, the Light Up Concert experience memorable for both performers and audience members?
Speaking generally right now, Light Up Concert first edition and the second edition coming up
Every year, our focus is to create memories in the heart of audience and this we try to do by bringing in new ideas right from the moment you step into the hall

Could you share some highlights from the lineup of artists and performers participating in this year's concert?
Badboytimz, the headliner, and this year we are having a surprise act, a popular artist in the country

With regard to the venue and logistics, what enhancements have been made to ensure a smooth experience for everyone attending?
Every year we try our best to ensure the safety of everyone and ensure and implement proper organization
Okay, this question is more about the industry (Showbiz Industry) and the community as a whole, in what ways do YOU THINK the Light Up Concert aims to create a sense of community and connection among attendees?
A lot of people get to connect and many also reconnect at the event. We have audiences from other states or schools every year and this year is not left out
Some people use this medium to explore the university community being their time.
Okay, well said. And the fact that you know it's more than just AAUA community
When it comes to Entertainment, the connection cuts across many communities, bringing different people together.
How has the feedback from the first edition influenced the planning and execution of this year's event?
A lot. This helps us to improve year in and year out because feedback is quite very important. Starting from the production perspective and making audiences more comfortable
Creating a perfect experience or long-lasting memories for your audience can be very task-ful and I know you and your team have been seriously working on making the concert a great one
Can you share any behind-the-scenes anecdotes or interesting stories from organizing the Light Up Concert?
I can’t say much honestly but then it’s not easy because it goes beyond just having a team and planning. I just thank God for Grace.

What message or feeling do you hope attendees will take away from their experience at the Light Up Concert?
They should get ready for another round of experience this time because we will always get better and do more

Finally, what advice would you give to aspiring MCs and event hosts who aim to master the art of controlling and energizing crowds?
What advice do you have for upcoming Event creators who would like to have what you have or a slice of what you are doing right now?
To upcoming MCs, please try to develop yourself and learn more. Don’t be distracted and to event creators, be Open to more ideas and pick a good team
That Team issue, very important, sometimes it's difficult to get people on board, not just people but like-minded people, people that believe as much as you do in the vision of what you are trying to create.
