Rema, Omah Lay, and Fireboy: Defining the New School of Music with Unique Styles and Sounds

Good Music....Dope songs...Solid sounds

      

Fireboy, Omah Lay and Rema defining these Three things to us through what they put out. Each of them has what he's more concerned about and what he's more obsessed with.

FIREBOY

Fireboy just wants to do Good music, lyrical and melodious music. He doesn't care what kind of sound it is, as long as it's appealing to the ears and connects with the souls, then he's okay and satisfied!! This is why you'll hardly see a song/Album that isn't good from him. It's easier for him that way because the styles of music he does were already in existence before he came around, and he's just here to be a part of those who do it in a grand style too, but not with a different approach, just in a very good manner/one of the best ways. Man's so Keen on doing "Quality Music" and doesn't care if he does it differently or not. He just wants to be seen as a good music maker, nothing more nothing less. Thumbs up, Damola.

OMAH LAY

Omah Lay on the other hand is sooo good at dishing out very "GOOD SONGS". You'll hardly listen to a song by Omah Lay and not Fall in Love with what you're listening to, at the very first listen. Almost impossible. But when it comes to features/joints that he's either guesting or initiating for other act(s) to guest, the story might not be the same. Why? Omah Lay is better at "singing good/dope songs" than making "Fire Verse(s)", crazy Ad-libs, insane features, spicy Auto tunes(like Reverbs and all that...). Omah Lay seems to be more conscious of his Flows' Delivery, Vocals,  instrumentations, catchy choruses/hooks development, and Good Quality of Production. He's one very good guy that comes out Everytime with very unique and beautiful songs. Maximum respects to the purple Lord. 

REMA

 Divine Ikubor.. This dude. *Sighs*..

This Guy doesn't Care on knowing what the definition of "Good Music" is by the General Public. To Him, all songs are good and Bad, depending on what you as a person define what music is good and not. No matter how good that song is, there Always will be a counter opinion to everyone's views on it. No matter how bad it is too, everyone can't find it Bad. This is just a common knowledge. We all can't term one song "Good" or one artiste "dope" at the same Time, Why? What's appealing to your own ears isn't same as what's appealing to another person's. We all can testify to the fact that Rema was Fire to every music Lover when he first arrived to the scene. His Freestyles were lovely and beautiful, only one who doesn't want to be honest with himself or herself would dispute this. Rema was doing an already existing genre(Trap) when he came around, he later subscribed to other styles which made the media likened him to an Already registered African act - Wizkid. Dumebi actually had some Elements of Wizkid's Manya, while Corny had few elements of Wizkid's Fever. I could remember his first interview when he first came around and the interviewer talked about him sounding like Wizkid and he said "Wizkid actually sounds like me, not otherwise" I personally got more attracted to him on hearing him say that. When "Lavida" by D Prince ft Rema dropped, I still saw some Elements of Wiz in his parts on the song but they weren't very obvious. It was then I knew I should take the Boy more seriously, the Indian sounds he made use of on the song were too beautiful, Jesussssss! there still wasn't a name for his style then cause he was still yet to discover that sound he had always wanted. He kept experimenting the sound and made several EPs like Bad commando and the likes, you shouldn't have a problem in admitting that these projects were Bops if you really want to be honest tho. They fetched us the Ckay we're now enjoying now. 

Despite the massive reception he received then with the kinds of sounds he was putting out, despite the huge amount of audience he was able to garner, despite the reviews upon reviews he got from both local and International media houses talking about him, his brand and his sound then, 2019/2020 was all about Rema, Wizkid, Burna Boy and inshallah. Despite all of those, he still had to dump the whole sounds for another. He dubbed this "Afro rave". He started experimenting this too. During this period, Fireboy had already dropped his first sophomore, while Omah Lay also had been here with his Breakthrough Track "You" and his debut EP "Get layd", as at the time that all Divine wanted was his own sound. Fireboy's LTG was a bop, no lie. "Get Layd" by Omah Lay as well was a tight tune and this made Omah Lay fit into the "Next Biggest Thing" debate, Rema's strife to discovering hidden and none existing genres affected the quality of sounds he was dishing out - not "Affected" in that manner, but what the media had to say. Media talks and negative reviews affected the audience receptions and perceptions of his music, he still didn't try to impress, he didn't mind what anyone thinks about the sounds he makes. An Alien sound will not and cannot be widely accepted by the general public in a blink of an eye. It will take Time and the initiator of the new style would be slandered a whole lot of Times while experimenting it. Wizkid was slammed, Burna Boy was slammed when he was still singing Afro-Dancehall that later birthed Today's Afro-fusion. Because you're coming in with a different approach to what they always knew to be "Good Music". Rema had to come in with different instrumentations, different flows delivery, different vibe, different Melody, different vocals, different "Dictions", and different Slangs/slugs. Reasons why Rema was slandered for doing the "Achukwuleke kpalansia scatter", Nose-singing and sounding too "Indian" on Afrobeats, and still didn't stop was most probably because he knew already that there surely would be implications for the sudden change of sounds in his struggle for discovering a not-yet discovered style of music.

In Essence, it's one thing to be good at singing good songs, it's another thing to only want to make good music and it's another very different thing to be an initiator of a sound. You can't be Keen on being an author/creator of a sound and still want to make good music and dope songs. You can know how to do the three, Yes but not equally. You'll be better at one than the other. This is why you shouldn't compare Rema, Omah Lay and Fireboy. Rema is the sound man among them, Omah Lay is the singer and Fireboy is the Musician among them.
