Why is Every MC a Comedian

 

Let’s face it

This question is something that has been on my mind and on the minds of thousands of people but probably everyone has been waving it away. Let’s have a serious conversation here

Why is every MC in AAUA a Comedian?

What are you thinking? You are probably thinking and trying to calculate if what I just said is true but it’s actually true. In Nigeria generally, almost every MC is a comedian and every Comedian is an MC; it's more confusing when saying it.

The point is it's a normal trend in the industry but let's bring it to AAUA and use that as a case study

 Let’s name them...... Shall we?

 

Mc Dekola

Ajayi Adekola popularly known as Mc Dekola, yeah there is an mc in front of his stage name he call himself a comedian and he has been on stage since his 100 level days and have been performing jokes on campus right from time although many consider him as the AY of Adekunle Ajasin who is not really funny but knows how to make it happened. I see Dekola as a King of Concept because he knows how to package his jokes and to me, he’s funny (Maybe that’s because I laugh always)

He's in 400 level now and he's the most popular Mc and Comedian in AAUA

Mc Mofy

Ade Mofe who makes everyone tickle with his Cutonuo accent and got famous on campus in his 100 level days when he did a comedy skit that went viral. Yes he also has Mc in front of his stage name, there you have him, Mc Mofy who is considered to be more funny than Dekola by many Aauites also tell jokes a lot on stage.

I think he started as a comedian and diverted into being a Master of Ceremony which he obviously love doing

Mc Fooye

Just a plus, this guy is really funny, he has the comedy agility and versatility, it’s the way he talks on stage, he is likeable so I think this gives him more leverage in the showbiz industry.

He tells jokes a lot and he does MC. 

Let’s look at the previous Acts, RDK, Mc Jessie, St Mickey Mc moskey; they all call themselves comedians and they anchor different shows too. This is like a trend in the showbiz industry but there is one act in this category who remains an Mc till today; Adeola Adeyemi popularly known as Mc Evercool.

He doesn’t call himself a comedian and does not perform during shows except he is hosting the show. The only thing he added is Hyping which he’s good at, the ability to be able to control crowd and turn things up got him the nickname “Turn up General” 

You can even be an MC and be funny as hell (Hell is not funny but I don’t know why I chose that word anyways as I was saying) you can be an MC but once you start portraying yourself as a comedian, and you start performing on different stage; you might not be considered funny and the more you keep showing up, you might lose your relevance in the industry except in some rare cases (Like being likeable by many or really talented)

Let’s look at it this way

If you are a comedian, a very good one; you have tendency of becoming an MC because you already have the confidence and the stage assertiveness so all you need to learn is crowd and time management but if you are an MC or you love anchoring events, you deciding to go into comedy is a decision your past, present and future has to make together. You don’t just decide you are funny because you can go on stage feeling like Tony Robbins but all your audience can see is a 7 year old child reading rhythms

The point is MCing (if there is a word like that) and Comedy are two separate things but it can be mixed together and if one likes to do the two, you should learn what it takes

Great things do not come easy but with much practice, consistency and perseverance, you will definitely get you to the top.
